"He looks around the coffee house and takes in the peculiar quiet of the dropped heads of the real-time generation swiping through the vacation photos, mundane milestones, political shares, and pet videos of their virtual friends. Only the sound of the occasional ring tone, the errant spoon on a plate, and the blast of the espresso maker shatters a perfectly sad commentary on human interaction."
"This book reads quickly, but you'll think about it for a very long time."
Stories from the Age of Distraction is a love letter to the art of storytelling. It is a tale about two friends that invent a storytelling app in an effort to save creative expression which they feel is in grave danger due to the rise of modern communication devices.
The app is a dynamic and ingenious global platform where anyone, anywhere in the world can contribute a line to a collective narrative. The inaugural story that launches the app is based upon a pair of discarded Prada pumps found in the California desert ... just outside a casino off the I-10 Freeway. The tale of these shoes ultimately takes the reader from the casino floor, to Bolivia, Brazil and the small, remote island of Ilha do Mel (Honey Island) in the South Atlantic.
Within the story we get guidance from some of the titans of literature and thought … Shakespeare, Victor Hugo, Dylan Thomas, WB Yeats, Herman Melville, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Robert Frost, Walt Whitman, Lord Alfred Tennyson, Franz Kafka, Eudora Welty, etc.
The app ultimately helps the story's vibrant characters break through to the poetry that they had forgotten existed and the verse that has always made their hearts sing. They each experience a literary and linguistic epiphany that makes them fall back in love with words and themselves.
"I want to go on record that this was probably one of the best books I've read so far this year. "

"A beautiful book that masterfully intertwines the classics with today’s technology."
"Just as I love the The World According to Garp as much for the stories it contains as the story it is, I love this book!"
